How to sow a mixed Annual Flowerbed

Annual flowers are one of the easiest and most cost affective way of not only adding colour to our gardens but also attracting beneficial insects and bees.

The important things to remember when sowing annuals areThe soil temperature should be at least 7deg (45deg F) and the ground should be dry enough to create a fine tilth.

To create a natural effect we premixed our seeds so that we get a totally random but incredibly pleasing effect

We added Silver sand to our Annual mix to make the easier to handle and to help spread them along the drills

You then make drills between 15-30cms  (6-12in) apart into which we will sow our seed mixture

Gently cover the seed and water with a fine rose to settle soil and get contact between seeds and the soil

Once germinated you need to thin them to about 15-20cms (6-9in) apart Dont overfeed your Flowers as they will produce more green growth and less flowers

The annual seeds we mixed together came from Higgledy garden and were all hardy annuals so require the same germination and growing conditions

The mix was

Ammi Majos

Ammi Visnaga

Candytuft  ‘Crown’

Corncockle

Cornflower ‘Blue Ball’

Cosmos ‘Candy Tuft’

Daucus Carota

Eschscholizia ‘Ivory Castle’

Eschscholizia ‘Orange King’
