TOMATO GROWING IN QUADGROW

This seemingly simple piece of equipment overcomes two of the major problems of growing tomatoes, that of over watering and blossom end rot, whilst simultaneously doubling the crop produced.  Also when growing peppers, aubergines or dwarf beans it gives you an increased yield without the daily requirement of watering.

tools you need and tools you dont

Let’s be honest most tools are designed to catch the gardeners eye and open his wallet rather than make your life easier and, as someone who is susceptible to this (I mean who needs 7 spades!)  when you are starting a new garden or its your first the essentials are:

1   Spade i much prefer steel and the older ones were much better so try e bay or car boot sales

2   Fork same applies althrouge stainless can help here

3   Disregard both the above and get a spork from  Sneeboer Holand beautifully made nice long handle looks quirky but works brilliantly

4   Rake fine tines (there the prongy bits) second hand saves money

5   Trowel must have –  you plant with it and weed –  again my fave by Sneeboer Holland the hand trowel worth the money and the second most useful thing for your garden, the most useful obviously our Ten Minute Gardener tutorials!!!

6  Watering can – Haws make the best really fine rose – watering seedlings like gentle rain

7  Water butt saves money and better for plants especially in a greenhouse

This short list will get you started.   Obviously you will add to this but remember  more expensive doesn’t always equate to improved or better, e-bay and car boots can be a great source of fantastic tools.
